This article discusses the differences between calling oneself a pagan and actually practicing paganism. The author shares the differences between talking the talk and walking the talk.
If we claim to believe in our gods and goddesses, as practicing pagans we must establish relationships with them. It is no different than what we do to build relationships with friends. We spend time with them and get to know them. To do this we not only read the myths and stories about the Old Gods, we meditate and include them in our meditations.
It is about “practice.” A Buddhist would escribe practice “systematically engaging in activities and adopting a mindset to transform the mind and live in accordance with Buddhist teachings.”
The author suggests that the following might be included in your practice:
Meditation
Exercises
Dream keeping
Study
Weekly Classes
Journaling (art and written) reactions, thoughts, questions, emotions, etc
Tarot Work
The author tells us that to fully live a path we must fir first, claim our path. Then we must do the work to develop our practice and finally, make it our own.
There is emphasis to take the time to hone our skills. Then, having relationships with the gods and goddesses we include in our practice, really taking the time to get to know them. Finally, we must spend time getting to know ourselves and contemplating what our spiritual intentions are for living this path.
I have spent a great deal of time researching, meditating with and getting to know the deities I am called to know. I am a regular meditator. I do my best to develop a positive mindset and regularly adjust my thinking to assist in manifestation of my needs and desires. I enjoy reading, researching and writing about topics that relate to my spiritual beliefs.
I have studied many different religions and practices. From them I have developed my own spiritual path. As the author concludes, my path is about knowing. What forms my path is the ever present “knowing” of my own truths that form and guide me in my spirituality.
